After a flurry of activity in the time immediately following the social networking boot-camp that was part of the Diocesan Clergy Conference earlier in May, I must say that blogging for me has become kind of like exercise programs or nutritional supplements. I get excited about them for a while, but then… well, I’m sure you know how that story goes.
However, like exercise programs and nutritional supplements, I know that blogging is good for me, and if I make myself do it then I find it to be a helpful way to organize my thoughts. In theory, it should make for a better sermon experience on Sunday, and I want that as much as you do!
At the moment, I am reflecting on a song lyric that I heard on Red Deer’s Shine FM (90.5) yesterday as I was driving to the church. I’m not sure of the song title, but the chorus began with something like “Help me to believe that I’m worth dying for.” It hit me like a ton of bricks! I think will be reflecting on those words in a blog coming your way soon.
By the way, Shine FM is Red Deer’s new Christian Radio station. An instant favourite in my family. Check it out at 90.5 FM.
Fort the time being, here are some things that we think you need to know about.
This Sunday, June 5, at the 10:00 service, Youth and Leaders will be reporting back on this past weekend’s trip to YC in Edmonton. Brant Stutheit will be our guest in the pulpit as he shares about the spiritual side of this great time away for our Sr. High youth.
Parish Eucharist and Tea will be on Thursday, June 9 starting at 2:00 pm.
Pentecost Sunday, June 12 – It’ll be like a birthday party for the Church! Wear red, or orange, or yellow, or perhaps a combination of any or all of those colours as we celebrate the gifts of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2). We will use this occasion to recognize the children who recently completed the Life in the Eucharist program. For some, it will mean taking communion for the first time. We would also like to take time to recognize some of our brothers and sisters in Christ who have some noteworthy accomplishments to celebrate.
Sunday, June 26 following the 10:00 service, we will be heading out to Camp Sherbino on the East shore of Sylvan Lake for our annual Church Picnic with St. Leonard’s Church. Please mark the date and plan to be there; more details to follow.
Summer Schedule – Starting on July 3, we will begin our summer service schedule. There will be one service each Sunday morning at 10:00 am for the months of July and August. There will also be no midweek Eucharist services during this time. Our regular schedule will resume on September 4, with the first Thursday service of the Fall on September 8.
***Note*** There will be a children’s program of some sort each Sunday in July and August.
Vacation Bible School – SonSurf Beach Bash VBS – July 11 – 15, 9 am to 12 pm. at St. Leonard’s. For St. Luke’s and St. Leonard’s kids, K to Gr. 5. Older kids (Gr. 6 to Gr. Grandparents) are welcome as helpers!
