Almighty God, we hold before you the people of Fort McMurray. We ask that in the midst of the horror and destruction they are witnessing, you would keep them safe and that their needs would be provided for. Continue to move in the hearts of the rest of us that we might continue to reach out and help in whatever ways we can. We thank you for your blessings in this situation; for people willing to help and the kindness of strangers. For refuge offered by First Nations friends, oil companies, and countless individuals and families offering places for people to lay their heads. For fire fighters and other first responders from across the province, and beyond, who are flooding into Fort McMurray to help save people, homes and businesses. We thank you for the preservation of life and it’s precious resilience demonstrated in the birth of children in evacuation camps. We thank you for the human spirit, and your spirit in us, that gives us hope and the ability to persevere. We pray that relief comes soon and that the fires might be extinguished. Lord have mercy. Amen.
