We Would like to introduce you to some special friends; Red Deer Players:
Red Deer Players is a not-for-profit, charitable community theatre society. Our mission is to provide the community of Red Deer and our community of theatre lovers the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of theatrical activities. From our quality main stage productions to our quirky smaller shows we hope we offer something for everyone interested in theatre; whether as an audience member, a set painter, an actor or a ticket taker.
Red Deer Players was created by a small group who came together to present a reader’s theatre at the Golden Circle. The success of that single evening in early 2014 led to the establishment of a group focused squarely on theatre and community. We are a small but enthusiastic group, whose aim is to create quality theatrical productions.
Since its inception, RDP has created an English style Pantomime shows, a Murder Mystery, Reader’s Theatre and two serious main stage dramatic productions.
Our upcoming March, 2017 show is a more ambitious endeavour called Calendar Girls, which is set in Yorkshire, England and tells the true story of a courageous group of women from the local Women’s Institute, who set out to raise 500 pounds for the local hospital, where one of their member’s husband is suffering from terminal cancer. Their efforts eventually resulted in raising more than 3,000,000 pounds for cancer research. We hope our production will be done in concert with the Canadian Cancer Society in an attempt to raise money for the fight against cancer, and are currently in discussion with them to determine how this may be a done. Additionally, the performance will be dedicated to one of the founding members of RDP, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Apart from our productions, the aims of the society include training and education in the theatrical arts, and we hope to produce workshops providing training in many different areas of theatre.
